Reconnecting with recruiters engaged with before can be an effective strategy for a jobseeker. Whether actively job hunting, exploring new opportunities, or staying visible in the industry, reaching out to recruiters previously interacted with can help improve the recruitment process for a jobseeker.



1. Reflect on Previous Interactions

  • Review communication to understand how the recruiter helped in the past.

  • Note which roles they were discussed and whether or not they thought there was a fit.

  • Acknowledge if it’s been a while and share reasons for reaching out.


2. Use the Right Medium

  • Email is best for professional and detailed messages.

  • LinkedIn works well for informal re-engagement, especially if there is no email or mobile number available.

  • Consider a brief call if there is a strong previous relationship.


3. Craft a Personalized Message

  • Start with a warm, respectful tone.

  • Mention previous connection (Example: “We met last year at an event.”).

  • Briefly update on career status or new goals.

  • Be clear about interest in exploring opportunities.


4. Offer Value

  • Recruiters may appreciate candidates make the recruitment process easier.

  • Mention niche skills, recent certifications, other relevant information.



5. Be Open to Feedback

  • If the recruiter doesn’t currently have an available role, it may be good to ask for advice related to the industry or job market.

  • View the interaction as a way to learn and improve.
