3 (Alternative) Ways to Network, for Job Seekers

Written by Yogi Velasquez | May 6, 2025

Having a strong network is important for job seekers, and the usual process of going to job fairs or having a presence on job platforms is key, but how else can a job seeker maintain or add to their network?

Here are three ways that can help.

  1. Industry Events
Local or online industry events, seminars, and conferences are potential venues for meeting recruiters and hiring managers. These events may also attract industry insiders who may share insights, provide referrals, or even direct job leads. This also has an added advantage of being focused on the industry of the job seeker's choice.

  2. Alumni Networks
Reaching out to alumni through university networks, social channels, or alumni events may help. Some Alumni groups foster a sense of connection and may be more willing to offer introductions to company representatives or recruitment teams.

  3. Communities and Forums
Platforms like LinkedIn(groups), Reddit, and other similar channels may provide spaces to connect with industry professionals, ask recruitment related questions, and share interests or expertise.
